Sou Foda!

Sou Foda (“I’m the shit”) is the best worst music video of 2011, and with over 11 million views, one of the biggest memes to hit the Brazilian web this year.

The group is called Os Avassaladores, literally “The Overwhelmers,” they’re five friends from the Vigário Geral favela in Rio, and they’re about to overwhelm your face off:

Are these dudes for real? What inspired this epic piece of internet art? Are they still in high school?

With no website, no Facebook page, and no show schedule to speak of,  lead singer Vitinho simply  tells Ragga Magazine:

“We wanted to make a song that makes everyone feel like they’re the shit, feel good, you know?”

This is the funk carioca genre at its best: low-fi, explicit and hilarious.

Seemingly unrelated, watch Pôneis Malditos (“Damn Ponies”), a brilliant Nissan commercial by Lew’Lara/TBWA that’s racked up over 14 million views and formal investigation for its association of children’s toys and the word “damn”:
